The Celtic cross emerged in Ireland and Britain in the Early Middle Ages and became widespread through its use in stone high crosses erected across the islands. The cross was especially prominent in regions evangelized by Irish missionaries from the 9th through the 12th centuries. It is popularly believed that St. Patrick introduced the Celtic Cross during his conversion of kings from paganism to Christianity. Rich dimensional detail and quality are evident throughout this original work of art that is sure to be a treasured heirloom for years to come.
