In December 1999, Long's Jewelers commissioned Reed & Barton to create the first, permanent Boston Marathon Champions' trophy, resulting in the production of a 40.25” sterling silver loving cup on a stepped, mahogany base mounted with silver plaques for the names of the winners The trophy was revealed in Boston at the John Hancock Observatory in 2000 and six replica trophies, made by Reed & Barton, are presented annually to the Marathon's division winners. The Reed & Barton Finishers Cup Trophy is hand crafted in pewter, and measures 11” high with lid and has a base of 3.7” The height of the cup only is nearly 7” high and from handle to handle the trophy is 8” wide.
